A mod to give Counter Strike: Global Offensive a classic feel

Classic Offensive Mod is a free mod for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive that has the aim of bringing a more “classic” feel to the game, reminiscent of its predecessor, Counter-Strike. The mod is free to download, but does require the player to own Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Rather than try to replicate the original Counter-Strike completely, the mod tries to blend some of the improvements made in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with the nostalgic feel of the original game. The developer has stated that they do not intend to make this mod fully authentic to the original game.

Nostalgic cooperative shooter

While Counter-Strike is an incredibly popular game, many fans have expressed their disappointment with the current iteration, instead preferring the original. Unfortunately, the original can no longer be played online, which is a problem for an online shooter. This mod makes the current version of the game feel more like the original.

The developer has stated their intent is to make CS:GO feel as authentic to the original Counter-Strike as possible, but not to undo the improvements made in the latest version of the game. Essentially, the mod aims to provide the best of both worlds. This includes keeping graphics and sounds from the original game while sticking with the weapon balancing from the new one.

This mod has understandably proved to be popular with fans of the original Counter-Strike, though it may not hold much appeal to new players to the series or players whose introduction was CS:GO. The mod is being actively worked on, however, and the developer is taking community feedback.
